hal9kay releases new tech-house single “Caravan” feat. Kate Paradis
What started as a riff on a jazz standard evolved into a severely danceable track once we broke out the acid bass and the Roland SPD
hal9kay teams up with Kate Paradis again for their second release in 2025. Their new track ‘Caravan’ started as a jam on the jazz standard Caravan until they broke out some acid bass and a Roland SPD-SX. The track ended up drawing on a wide variety of influences… with no intention to be true to any particular genre. The track pushes ‘4 on the floor’ throughout, and also incorporates vocal and drum samples you may hear on Techno and Afro house dance floors, all while building upon shifting son and rhumba clave patterns. The overall vibe ends up infectiously danceable while having an urgent, energetic drive from intro to outro.
Kate Paradis captured some amazing drum performances such as the fast swinging ride pattern and the improvised timbale solo. hal9kay brought his usual arsenal of synths including his favorite Moog Little Phatty and combines them into a minimal yet intricate arrangement. The synth hook takes the track to the next level by giving the perfect energy for a big room.
